Russia has amplified conspiracy theories suggesting that delays in reporting Iowa caucus results were part of an effort to deny Senator Bernie Sanders a win, as well as theories purporting murky ties between other candidates and the company that created the caucus app. But Russia does not really support a particular candidate, Head of Research and Policy Jessica Brandt explained. “All of this is part of Russia’s much broader effort to cast democracies as feckless, ineffective, and corrupt. In other words, to dent democracy’s appeal,” she said.
