Websites publishing COVID-19 disinformation reportedly connected to Russian intelligence services
An outlet known as InfoRos, including sites InfoRos.ru, Infobrics.org, and OneWorld.press, has reportedly been publishing disinformation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic with influence from Russian intelligence services. Multiple individuals affiliated with the outlet, including Denis Valeryevich Tyurin and Aleksandr Gennadyevich Starunskiy, appear to have previously worked in a GRU unit specializing in psyschological intelligence and operations. Between May and July 2020, the outlet reportedly published approximately 150 articles with coverage criticizing U.S. response efforts or praising Russian efforts. U.S. officials warned that the narratives demonstrate sophisticated efforts to mask the disinformation within more reputable content, usually in English and often by leveraging external sources.
