Ukraine identifies Russian hackers targeting government, infrastructure
The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) identified five members of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) as a part of the Armagedon hacking group, which is known to have conducted more than 5,000 cyberattacks against Ukrainian public officials and critical infrastructure entities since 2014. The SSU said Armagedon’s goals were to gain control of critical infrastructure facilities, collect intelligence, block information systems, and conduct influence operations. Ukrainian intelligence services utilized FSB software to maintain anonymity while intercepting communications between and gathering evidence against the hackers. The actors have been notified of suspicion of treason and charged in absentia.
