Russian-state connected hacker group Sandworm targets Ukrainian banks
In March 2010, according to the New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell, Russian-state connected hacker group Sandworm launched a two-pronged cyberattack using BlackEnergy 2 code to simultaneously suspend Ukrainian banks’ web services and steal bank customers’ information. BlackEnergy gained notoriety when Russian cyber criminals used the malicious code to target Georgia in 2008 during the Russia-Georgia conflict.
