Russian state-connected hacker group Sandworm takes offline Ukraine’s energy grid for second time
On December 17, 2016, Russian state-connected hacker group Sandworm again triggered a power outage in Kyiv, this time leaving 700,000 Ukrainians without electricity. The Cybersecurity firm Dragos Inc. linked the power outage to Sandworm with “high confidence.” Ukrainian energy company Ukrenergo representatives said that the hackers sent phishing emails to Ukrenergo employees to harvest login credentials.
