LinkedIn bans Western journalists critical of PRC from China

VOA News reported on September 29, 2021 that China journalists have had their LinkedIn profiles blocked. Journalist Bethany Allen-Ebrahimian posted on Twitter describing her experience: LinkedIn sent a message declaring the block was placed because of “prohibited content” on her page, without specifying which instances were problematic. Other journalists who write about China had similar experiences and posted them to Allen Ebrahimian’s Twitter thread. LinkedIn has reached out to affected journalists and promised to minimize the impact of the block on the condition that journalists update or revise some of their posted content. LinkedIn responded to news outlet inquiries by defending their position as a company that respects the laws of every country they operate in. Journalists banned on LinkedIn in this incident had all written pieces critical of the CCP.
