Hacker group uses tactics similar to those of Chinese state-affiliated group APT10 to target American utility companies
In July 2019, according to researchers from cybersecurity firm Proofpoint, “several spear phishing emails were identified targeting three US companies in the utilities sector”, aiming to infect employees with LookBack, a remote access Trojan. The experts found that the attack presented “similarities” with one that took place in July 2018, where Chinese state-affiliated group APT10 targeted Japanese entities. Forbes ‘ cybersecurity correspondent explains that this makes APT10 “the most likely culprit behind [the] cyber campaign targeting U.S. utility companies.”
