France arrests Ukraine-Russia national with explosives on terror charges

In early June 2024, French counterterrorism authorities arrested a 26-year-old dual Ukrainian-Russian national after an explosion in his hotel room in Roissy-en-France. The suspect, who sustained facial and upper body burns, was found in possession of materials used to manufacture explosive devices, including ammonium nitrate, as well as firearms and forged passports. Investigators discovered that he had been preparing a bomb intended for a Bricorama store, aiming to cause property damage without casualties. The individual, identified as originating from the Donbass region and having previously fought with pro-Russian separatists, was charged with participation in a terrorist criminal association and possession of explosives in connection with a terrorist enterprise. French authorities suspect that he was acting under foreign direction, with communications on encrypted messaging platforms suggesting coordination from abroad. This incident is considered part of a broader campaign of sabotage orchestrated from Moscow targeting multiple European countries.
