Danish shipping giant hit by Russian military intelligence agency (GRU)-connected NotPetya malware
In January 2018 the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) attributed the massive cyberattack NotPetya that struck Ukraine in summer 2017 to Russian military intelligence agency (GRU)-connected hackers. NotPetya spread to the Danish headquarters of the world’s largest container shipping conglomerate A.P. Moller Maersk Group, affecting the loading and unloading systems of 76 A.P. Moller Maersk Group ports worldwide. The attack cost A.P. Moller Maersk Group an estimated 1.3 to 1.9 billion Danish Krone and created one of the biggest disruptions to ever hit the global shipping industry.
