Chinese embassy pressures Italian city over critical art exhibit
China’s embassy in Italy requested that the government of Italian city Brescia close an art exhibit critical of the PRC. The artist is a Chinese dissident named Badiucao or “Chinese banking” and their exhibit was expected to represent repression censorship and information manipulation that occurs within China. The Chinese Embassy Cultural Center issued a public statement calling out Badiucao’s work as “full of anti-Chinese lies” and warning that the exhibit would harm diplomatic relations between China and Italy. According to local news sources, mayor of Brescia Emilio Del Bono stated that the art exhibit would continue as planned.
