China threatens to halt Danish trade deal unless Huawei access assured
The Chinese government threatened to cancel a potential trade agreement with Denmark’s Faroe Islands if 5G company Huawei did not receive access to the Danish telecommunications market. While the semi-autonomous islands were exploring a contract for a 5G network, the Chinese ambassador allegedly told its representatives that China would sign a trade deal if Huawei got the contract. The small islands, which rely heavily on salmon and other fish exports, including to China, initially attempted to downplay any links between trade and the 5G negotiations.
