Latvian MEP worked on behalf of Russian FSB since 2004
An investigation by several European news agencies revealed that Latvian MEP Tatjana Ždanoka had been working for Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) to advance the Kremlin’s interests in the Baltic region, reporting to two different handlers from 2004 to 2017. Leaked emails between Ždanoka and those operatives comprised detailed reports describing Ždanoka’s efforts as a European legislator to foster pro-Russian sentiment, correspondence about arranging physical meetings in Moscow or Brussels, and requests for funding, notably to organize a rally commemorating the Red Army’s victory in World War II.
