In the two years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Russia’s and the People’s Republic of China’s use of disinformation has increased along with Moscow and Beijing’s coordination in creating narratives that benefit their interests and worldviews. The two countries, setting their sights on Ukraine and Taiwan respectively, have deployed overlapping strategies and methods in the information space while keying into unique themes and techniques that resonate with various publics in Europe and Asia and globally.
In a year marked by critical elections across Europe and in the United States, both authoritarian countries are intent not only on influencing the outcomes but, perhaps more importantly, exacerbating distrust and doubt in the democratic process itself.
This virtual, hour-long event will include reporters from Radio Free Asia (RFA) and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) as well as experts from Alliance for Securing Democracy at the German Marshall Fund of the United States to discuss the situation and make recommendations for pushing back against malign influence in the information space.
