On October 20, 2022, French media revealed two investigations that the Paris Judicial Court had initiated in September 2021 on two French politicians who stood accused of corruption, influence peddling, breach of trust and money laundering in connection with the French-Russian Dialogue Association. The French politicians, Thierry Mariani, from the National Rally Party, and Yves Pozzo di Borgo, former Senator and Paris counsellor, are the most active members of the association and have repeatedly defended the Kremlin’s foreign policy. The association is one of the most influential Russian political relays in France and seeks to deepen cooperation between politicians and businessmen from both countries. The French Ministry of Economy’s anti-money laundering unit identified suspicious financial transactions that transited through YPDB Conseil, a consulting company created by Pozzo di Borgo a few weeks after his 2017 Senate departure. According to the trade register, this company grew exponentially in 2018 and 2020, which granted the French politician generous dividends worth 103,838 euros in 2020. The Ministry’s investigations showed that YPDB Conseil made 85% of its turnover with the Russian bus manufacturer Bakulin Motors Group, believed to be connected to a Kremlin-linked oligarch.
