Russia Blamed for October Cyberattack on Georgia
The Georgian government accused Russia of a series of attacks on its cyber infrastructure perpetrated by the GRU hacker collective known a “Sandworm.” The attacks, which took place in October 2019, targeted 15,000 websites belonging to governmental, judicial, and economic institutions, banks, and the Georgian state broadcaster. Sandworm also known by the names “BlackEnergy,” “Telebots,” and “Voodoo Bear,” was implicated previously in the 2017 NotPetya attack on Ukraine’s infrastructure, which caused $10 billion in damage.
