Russian state-controlled Gazprom and Austrian energy giant sign long-term gas supply deal
On June 5, 2018, Russian state-controlled energy giant Gazprom and Austrian energy company OMV signed an agreement to supply Austria with Russian gas through 2040. No other details of the deal were made public. According to a European Parliament study, long-term supply contracts between Russian energy companies, in particular Gazprom, and European importers increase the purchasing country’s dependence on Russian energy supplies by locking in energy purchases for the duration of the contract.
