Pro-Russian hackers claim responsibility for attacking Greek institutions

On March 24, 2024, pro-Kremlin hackers conducted cyber operations against Greek institutions. The hackers, known as NoName057(16), started operating in March 2022 and target states that counter Russian aggression against Ukraine. The group obstructs governmental bodies by using distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks that overwhelm their websites and effectively take them offline. The March 2024 attack affected 9 Greek institutions: the metro, port, and international airport of Thessaloniki; the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation; the Center for European Constitutional Law; the Registry of Shipping Companies of Greece; the Hellenic Banking Association; the intercity bus service of Halkidiki; the Hellenic Railways Organization. It is uncertain whether NoName stole any data from any of the affected entities.
