In May 2020, the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said in a statement that U.S. groups researching vaccines were being targeted by China-linked hackers who were attempting to identify and obtain valuable intellectual property and public health data. The security agencies said that PRC-affiliated “cyber actors and non-traditional collectors” were attempting to get ahold of COVID-19-related research.
