German far-right MP investigated for payments from Kremlin-friendly media
Petr Bystron, a German MP for far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) and second on the party’s list for the 2024 European Parliament elections was accused of having connections to the pro-Russian Voice of Europe platform, potentially also receiving money from it. Czech newspaper Denik N first reported on those allegations in early April 2024. The newspaper explained that Czech intelligence was investigating claims against Bystron based on audio recordings, indicating that he received 20,000 Euro in cash from oligarch Artem Marchevsky. German public prosecutors started investigating Bystron for and money laundering. Bystron’s immunity was lifted, and his office and private rooms were searched by the police on May 17th.
