Corinna Blutguth Shares Insights Into Russia’s Information Operations Ahead of Germany’s Elections on SVT1

GMF Researcher Corinna Blutguth joined Sweden’s SVT1 to discuss the reach and scope of Russian state-backed media outlet RT Deutsch in Germany. Corinna explained that ASD/GMF data showed that RT Deutsch has been outperforming other traditional German-speaking media on Facebook. She also explained that RT Deutsch does not necessarily spread fake news or lies per se, but rather the outlet uses misleading headlines and information to emotionalize its audience. Corinna further noted that our analyses have shown that Annalena Baerbock has received disproportionately more attention and negative coverage from RT Deutsch, probably because the Green party is the party most vocal in criticizing the Russian government.
