Suspected Russian hackers breach EU embassy in Moscow
In February 2017, suspected Russian actors hacked the computer network of the European Union’s embassy in Moscow, according to BuzzFeed News. European officials determined that the attack – which was perpetrated by an advanced persistent threat (APT) – affected at least two computers and stole data. The “sophisticated cyber espionage event” was still ongoing when it was discovered in April 2019, shortly before elections for the European Parliament. A European spokesperson said that the embassy’s “unclassified network” had potentially been compromised.
